Preparing the Communication Link

Note: 1. If the onboard computer was previously connected to Wi Fi, disconnect it before continuing.

USB Network Tethering

  • Connect the remote controller to the computer using a USB 3.0 data cable.
  • A USB-device notification appears in the status bar. Tap the icon and select network tethering.
  • The image shows an example pop-up. Open it and select USB network tethering.

  • You can also follow the video below to open Network Settings and select USB network tethering manually.
  • Power on the UAV before performing the following tests.
  1. Test the onboard-computer link: ping 192.168.144.60
  2. Test the gimbal link for the GX40 gimbal: ping 192.168.144.108

This section explains how to use the communication link so that the H16 remote controller can connect to QGC Ground Station, the onboard computer can be accessed through NoMachine, Prometheus Ground Station can connect to the UAV, and QGC Ground Station can connect to the flight controller.

Note:
1. This section describes the network configuration of the H16 remote controller and local computer.
2. The network subnet configured on each remote controller differs. Ensure that you use the correct subnet.

H16 Remote Controller Network-Sharing Configuration

Share a Network Through a Wi-Fi Hotspot

  • Set the station computer's IP address to 192.168.43.245 so the ground station software can receive feedback messages. Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 192.168.43.1.

  • After the hotspot starts successfully, connect another laptop to it and confirm that it can ping the device successfully.

USB Network Tethering

  • Set the station computer's IP address to 192.168.42.245 so the ground station software can receive feedback messages. Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 192.168.42.1.

  • After USB network tethering starts successfully on the H16, confirm that the computer can ping it successfully.

Ethernet Network Sharing (Default Configuration)

  • Set the station computer's IP address to 192.168.45.245 so the ground station software can receive feedback messages. Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 192.168.45.1.

  • After Ethernet network sharing starts successfully on the H16, confirm that the computer can ping it successfully.

Enable the Hotspot

  • This section explains how to enable the Wi-Fi hotspot on the H16 remote controller.

  • After the H16 starts and displays the main interface, open Settings (1).
  • Select More (2) to open Wireless & Networks (3).
  • Select item 4 to open Tethering & Portable Hotspot settings (5).
  • Enable Portable WLAN Hotspot and select item 6. The hotspot is now active, and a hotspot icon appears in the status bar.
  • Tap Set Up WLAN Hotspot to configure and view the hotspot name and password.

USB Network Tethering

  • Follow the hotspot procedure to open Tethering & Portable Hotspot on the H16 remote controller.
  • Prepare a USB-to-Type-C cable. Connect the Type-C end to the H16 remote controller and the USB end to the laptop.
  • After connecting the data cable, open Tethering & Portable Hotspot. The following screen appears. Tap the USB Network Tethering switch.

Ethernet Network Sharing

  • Follow the hotspot procedure as a reference.
  • After connecting the computer to the H16 remote controller with an Ethernet cable, open Tethering & Portable Hotspot on the H16 remote controller. Tap the option shown below to enable Ethernet network sharing.

Share the H16 Ethernet Network with a Laptop

  • In Windows, locate the area shown below and right-click to open Network Settings.

  1. Select Manual.
  2. Enable IPv4.
  3. Enter the IP address: 192.168.45.245
  4. Enter the subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  5. Enter the gateway: 192.168.45.1
  6. Enter the DNS address: 8.8.8.8
  7. Save the configuration, then unplug and reconnect the Ethernet cable for the changes to take effect.

Share the H16 Ethernet Network with a Laptop

  • Open Network Settings and set a static IP address for the wired network.

Set the IP address to 192.168.45.245, subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, and gateway to 192.168.45.1, as shown below:

  • After clicking Apply, check again to confirm that the changes took effect. If they did not, disconnect and reconnect the network or restart the computer.

Wirelessly Connect QGC Ground Station to the UAV Flight Controller

Use a Windows Computer to Wirelessly Connect QGC Ground Station to the UAV Flight Controller

  • Connect the H16 remote controller to the laptop with an Ethernet cable. Open Settings on the H16 remote controller, then open Wireless & Networks → Tethering & Portable Hotspot.
  1. Open QGC on the computer.
  2. Click the QGC icon in the upper-left corner.
  3. Click Communication Links under Application Settings.

  1. Enter a memorable name for the connection.
  2. Select TCP.
  3. Enter the server address: 192.168.144.11
  4. Enter the port: 5760
  5. Click OK.

  1. Select the connection you just created.

  1. If a Disconnect option appears and no connection-failed message is displayed, the connection is operating normally.
  2. Click the paper-airplane Back icon to return to the main page.

Use the H16 Remote Controller to Wirelessly Connect QGC Ground Station to the UAV Flight Controller

Connection Video

  • The H16 remote controller has a built-in Android operating system, so QGC can run directly as an app on the H16 and connect to QGC Ground Station.

After powering on the UAV and remote controller, the remote controller communicates normally with the receiver, as shown above. Tap the QGroundControl app shown in the figure to open QGC and configure the connection.

The error shown above appears after you open the app, but it does not affect flight. Tap OK to continue.

  • First, tap item 1. QGC menu bar 2 appears automatically.
  • Tap Application Settings 3.
  • Select Serial Connection 4.
  • Tap the preset connection 5.
  • Finally, tap item 6 to connect.
  • Tap item 7 to return to the flight interface.
  • Wait for item 8 to finish loading.
