Firmware Upgrade and Version Management - Remote Controller Assistant

This section explains how to view version information with the current firmware and update the system of the QE3 Screen Remote Controller through the “Firmware Upgrade” entry.
The current public version does not provide an online OTA download page. Upgrades are primarily performed using a local upgrade package or PC tool; Remote Assistant itself mainly serves to provide “version information viewing + an upgrade entry.”

Firmware Upgrade Page Overview

In “Remote Assistant,” select the “Firmware Upgrade” menu item to open the firmware upgrade page.

The interface can be broadly divided into the following areas (field names depend on the actual firmware):

• Current version information area: Displays basic information such as the current firmware version number and build date;
• Upgrade progress area: Displays a progress bar, percentage, and status messages while an upgrade is in progress;
• Local upgrade entry: Used to select an upgrade package on a microSD card or USB flash drive, or to provide instructions for upgrading with a PC tool;

Note: The layout and fields on this page may vary slightly between customized firmware versions, but the overall process remains the same: first confirm the current version → select a local upgrade package or PC tool → monitor the progress and result messages.
By default, Remote Assistant does not enter firmware upgrade mode. To enter firmware upgrade mode, first power off the device. While holding R1 and R3, press the power button once. The device enters firmware upgrade mode after it starts up. To exit firmware upgrade mode, simply restart the device.

Precautions

• After entering firmware upgrade mode, the device cannot be used normally as a remote controller;
• All buttons other than the power button, as well as the control sticks, cannot be used normally;
• The power button can only be used to shut down the device, not to turn the screen off or on. To shut down the device, press and hold the power button for a typical duration of 3 seconds.

Pre-Upgrade Checks (General Recommendations)

Before performing an upgrade using a local package or PC tool, it is recommended that you complete the following checks:

• Battery level: Ensure that the remote controller's battery level is at least 50%. If possible, perform the upgrade while connected to an external power source;
• Data: Back up important configurations and data as required for actual use (including button mappings, channel templates, mission configurations, etc.);
• Operating status: Perform the upgrade while no mission is in progress to avoid needing to operate the device urgently during the upgrade;
• Version compatibility: Confirm that the firmware to be installed is compatible with the current hardware model and system configuration (technical support can provide recommendations).

Do not force a shutdown, disconnect the power supply, or restart the device repeatedly during the upgrade. Doing so may interrupt the write process and prevent the device from starting normally.

Local Upgrade (SD Card / USB Flash Drive / PC Tool)

The current firmware does not provide an online OTA download page. A local upgrade using one of the following methods is recommended (refer to the accompanying upgrade instructions for the specific steps):

1. Download the firmware package for the corresponding model and version from an official or designated channel, and verify the file's integrity as required;
2. Copy the firmware package to the root directory of a microSD card or USB flash drive, and insert it into the QE3 remote controller;
3. Open “Remote Assistant” → “Firmware Upgrade.” From the local upgrade entry, select the upgrade package you just copied and confirm that you want to start the upgrade;
4. Alternatively, connect the device to a computer via Type-C and perform the upgrade using the designated PC upgrade tool;
5. After the upgrade process is complete, manually restart the device. After restarting, check the version information area to confirm that the version number has been updated to the target version.

If you use a PC tool, refer to the tool's user manual or accompanying instructions for the specific operating steps, methods for determining progress, and exception handling.

SystemUpdaterSample OTA Upgrade Example (Some Firmware Versions)

Some firmware versions also provide an OTA upgrade tool named “SystemUpdaterSample”, which is used to load and switch system upgrade packages from a USB flash drive. Its typical usage is as follows (for reference only by experienced operations and technical personnel):

1. Prepare the upgrade files
   • Use a USB flash drive with a capacity of at least 8GB;
   • Copy the two provided files, config.json and update.zip, to the root directory of the USB flash drive.
2. Confirm host mode
   • Following the instructions earlier in this chapter or in the “Network and Communication Settings” chapter, ensure that the current Type-C port is properly connected to the USB flash drive/adapter so that the system can correctly recognize the USB device.
3. Load the upgrade package
   • Insert the USB flash drive into the QE3;
   • Open the SystemUpdaterSample application from the application menu. The identifier of the recognized USB flash drive (for example, “026-F”) is displayed at the top;
   • Open the corresponding USB flash drive. The scanned upgrade package, update, is displayed. Click the “APPLE” button in the interface to start loading the upgrade package;
   • If a confirmation dialog appears, click “OK” as prompted to continue.
4. Apply the upgrade slot
   • A progress bar is displayed during loading. After loading is complete, the “SWITCH SLOT” button at the bottom of the interface becomes available;
   • Click “SWITCH SLOT” to apply the upgrade files that were just loaded, and wait for the system to finish writing them;
   • When a success message such as SUCCESS/0 appears in the interface, the upgrade files have been applied to the target slot.
5. Restart to complete the upgrade
   • After confirming the success message, restart the device to complete the OTA upgrade process;
   • After restarting, check whether the version number is as expected on the “Firmware Upgrade” page or under [About Device].

Tip: The above process depends on specific firmware and upgrade tools. Use it only when you have received the corresponding upgrade package and operating instructions. Avoid disconnecting the power or removing the USB flash drive during the process. If an abnormal status occurs, contact technical support for assistance.

About Ideal Firmware

You can view information such as the current firmware version, system version, hardware version, and serial number on the “Firmware Upgrade” page or under system [Settings] → [About Device]. Recommendations:

• Record key information before and after each upgrade (device/system name, date, old version number, new version number, reason for the upgrade, etc.);
• Save version change records in operations documentation or a configuration management system to facilitate subsequent troubleshooting and traceability;
• To learn about new features or fixes, also refer to “Upgrade and Version History” in Chapter 8 and the “Firmware Version Change Log” within it.

For safety and consistency, arbitrary rollback to an older version is generally not recommended. If a rollback is required, contact ROBOSN technical support to assess the risks and determine the appropriate procedure.
