Battery maintenance

The battery supplied with the P450 is a 4S1P LiPo lithium-polymer battery pack. When measuring the voltage of an individual cell: 4.2V when fully charged and 3.7V when low (the 4S pack has a nominal total voltage of 14.8V and a fully charged voltage of approximately 16.8V).

  1. Never over-discharge: A cell voltage of 3.7V indicates a low battery. Stop flying and charge the battery as soon as possible. If a cell remains below approximately 3.5V for an extended period, the battery may become over-discharged and swell, creating a fire risk if recharged. When approximately 3.7V is measured on the ground with no load, the voltage will drop further under full-throttle load in flight. Allow sufficient margin and land early.

  2. Never overcharge: The supplied battery is a standard LiPo battery, with a maximum charging voltage of 4.2V per cell (approximately 16.8V for a fully balance-charged 4S pack). A cell voltage above 4.2V indicates overcharging and will damage the battery. Use balance charging and confirm that the charger's charge cutoff voltage for LiPo batteries is 4.2V/cell (do not mistakenly use a high-voltage mode such as LiHV). For long-term battery storage, keep the voltage of each cell at approximately 3.85V.

  3. Battery storage: Do not store the battery fully charged. Storing a model aircraft battery fully charged has a major impact on its discharge performance. After each use, it is recommended that you charge or discharge the battery to the storage voltage. In particular, a battery that has been fully charged but not used must be discharged. Long-term storage at full charge will damage the battery. Because lithium batteries are inherently unstable, there is some risk of fire even during normal storage. A pile of many lithium battery cells is no less dangerous than an incendiary bomb. During storage, keep the battery away from flammable materials and store it separately. If possible, store it in an explosion-resistant, flame-retardant container.
