System restore restores only the contents of the eMMC; data on the SD card is not restored. The system can be restored using either an official AMOVLAB image or a self-created image backup.
The Image Backup section explains how to back up an SD card system image. This section primarily explains how to restore a backed-up image to an SD card system.
Prepare a card reader, an SD card of the same capacity, a computer with balenaEtcher installed, and the backed-up .image.img.gz image file. Download balenaEtcher from https://www.balena.io/etcher/. The software supports multiple platforms, including Windows and Ubuntu. Download and install the version for your operating system.
Insert the card reader into the computer and open balenaEtcher, as shown below.

Select the .image.img.gz image file to flash. This example selects raspberryPi.image.img.gz, as shown below.

Then click Flash, as shown below:

Wait for the image flashing process to finish. It takes approximately 30 minutes. The following screen appears when flashing is complete:

The SD card system has now been flashed.
