Autonomous Guidance for Service Robots: End-to-End Hands-on Training with ROS 2 Nav2
In an unfamiliar shopping mall or exhibition venue, you tell a service robot your destination. It plans a route, guides you through crowds and corridors, and brings you to the information desk or your chosen exhibition area. Along the way, it must reroute around temporary barriers, moving carts, or groups of people. When it moves from indoors to outdoor grounds, areas beneath trees, tunnels, or open roads, changing localization conditions require it to reassess its position and the traversable space around it. A seemingly simple task—showing the way—tests the robot's ability to maintain localization, plan dynamically, and execute tasks reliably in complex environments.
From October 20 to 22, this bootcamp will use a FlyCore-equipped unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) platform for hands-on autonomous guidance training across indoor and outdoor environments. The course covers sensor-fusion localization and mapping, TF, ROS 2 Nav2, costmaps, path planning, behavior trees, control, and chassis actuation. Through multi-waypoint navigation, static and dynamic obstacle avoidance, and acceptance testing on real routes, participants will work through the complete navigation pipeline and learn system deployment, parameter tuning, and troubleshooting.
The training also connects directly with the FlyCore Robotics Challenge. After completing the course, participants can continue developing their own application demos with FlyCore, applying what they have learned to real-world inspection, search and rescue, and spatial exploration. They can then enter the challenge to compete for seven-figure innovation funding and follow-on project support.

Training Highlights
The three-day course centers on one UGV, one integrated control system, and one autonomous guidance task. Starting with the system architecture and ROS 2 data flow, participants progress through SLAM and Nav2 integration testing, system deployment, and route validation, building a complete approach to UGV navigation development and debugging.
Run the Complete ROS 2 Nav2 Navigation Pipeline
Starting with navigation goal submission, work through global path planning, local control, and chassis actuation. Learn how navigation commands pass between ROS 2 Nav2 modules and translate into vehicle motion.
Adapt Navigation to Indoor and Outdoor Environments
Learn sensor-fusion localization, map building, and Nav2 adaptation methods tailored to indoor spaces and outdoor areas beneath trees.
Deploy and Integrate the System to Address Engineering Problems
Carry out SLAM and ROS 2 Nav2 integration testing, deploy the navigation system, and optimize key parameters. Learn how to diagnose common navigation problems and restore operation.
Validate Navigation Performance on Multi-Waypoint Routes
Use Nav2 for multi-waypoint navigation along routes containing static obstacles and moving objects, evaluating the UGV's autonomous traversal, obstacle avoidance, and navigation task execution.
02
Hands-on Training Tasks
Working with real navigation routes, participants will build maps and establish localization, deploy the navigation system, integrate SLAM with ROS 2 Nav2, optimize key parameters, and complete route acceptance testing. Training covers ROS 2 nodes and communication mechanisms, TF, core Nav2 modules, costmaps, global planning, local control, and behavior trees, connecting these components into a complete pipeline from goal submission through path planning and control to chassis actuation.
The training focuses on five engineering skills: understanding the UGV's ROS 2 system architecture, tracing vehicle-wide data flow, deploying and launching the navigation system, diagnosing common navigation faults, and completing multi-waypoint navigation tasks.

Learning Outcomes
A Reusable Navigation Method:
Understand how mapping, localization, planning, control, and task execution relate to one another, and break requirements down into system components that can be debugged.
A Complete Hands-on Engineering Experience:
Deploy, launch, integrate, and tune the system yourself, then complete acceptance testing on real routes.
A Clear Troubleshooting Workflow:
Use the vehicle's observed behavior to guide checks of data flow, TF, maps, localization, and navigation parameters.

Training Equipment
The course uses a FlyCore-equipped UGV platform. Each equipment set includes a FlyCore Integrated Control System, a UGV chassis, an LQ10 Communication Link, and an FS-I6S remote controller, with a total value of more than CNY 50,000. Participants will examine the data flow between sensors, odometry, TF, and chassis control, then carry out system deployment, parameter adjustment, and route testing.
